We wish to thank everyone for their past support, and look
forward to serving the community as we always have. If
anyone has any old cell-phones, we are recycling them as a
fund raising project. They can be dropped off at the
firehouse social club.
Please be safe! Your Fire Co. cares!

EMERGENCY MANAEMENT NEWS
Hello, neighbors! As your local Emergency Management
Coordinator, I am pleased to have this opportunity to get a
short message out to the residents of East Bangor.
This past year was a busy one. As some may know, I was
involved in the planning and hosting of a full-scale
emergency exercise conducted by the joint EMCs of the
communities in the Slate Belt Council of Governments. The
planning committee consisted of these neighboring
coordinators: Lindsey Manzi (Upper Mt. Bethel Twsp.); John
Rigione (Bangor); Marv McCammon (Lower Mt. Bethel Twsp.);
Mike Confalone (Plainfield Twsp.); Ralph Falcone (BASD) and
Victor Rodite (COG Exec.Dir.) and myself. Many hours, over
the course of seven months, went into the planning, and we
had some help in the form of finances from East Bangor
Borough Council and the Upper Mt. Bethel Twsp. Supervisors,
as well as from State Rep.s Rich Grucela and Craig Dally.
The exercise involved almost every Fire Co. and EMS unit in
the Slate Belt, along with the Northampton County Emergency
Management Agency and our 911 Center. Also participating
were Pennsylvania State Police units and PennStar medical
helicopters. Although not flawless, the exercise was a
success by most accounts. The planning was done in
compliance with the new U.S. Department of Homeland Security
Exercise and Evaluation Program, and we were the first in
the county to do so. I would like to thank our Borough
Council, the UMBT Supervisors, Mr.Grucela and Mr. Dally for
their support. I also wish to express my appreciation to the
many First Responders who participated in the event. Hats
off to all!!
The Federal Government is raising the bar for training, not
only for all firefighters, police officers, other first
responders, and myself, but also for our elected officials!
This year, everyone was required to pass a basic Incident
Management course. In the near future, there will be
additional requirements. Staying up to date will keep us
eligible for grants and other assistance in the future. It
will also keep our town safer! Our Mayor and Council members
and other officers are more than willing to do what is
necessary if there is a true emergency.
I would like to mention, for future reference, that the
Emergency Management Newsletter written and distributed in
2003 is no longer available to read at SlateBelt.com.
However, an updated version will be added to the East Bangor
website very soon. The information included could help you
in your own emergency planning for your home or business.
There are contact numbers for relevant agencies, along with
some practical tips for homeowners. There is also
information regarding a new system for distributing
information about special needs residents. I will update
that article periodically to keep you informed of any
important news regarding Emergency Management.
Thanks for taking the time to read these lines! Be well and
stay safe!
